In 1995, as part of Porto’s Urbanization Plan, it was intended to create an avenue parallel to Boavista Avenue, which extends the city's nascent/west connections, crossing the VCI – the city's main thoroughfare – with a new viaduct. The works for the accesses to the Bessa Stadium, under Euro 2004 program, contemplated the design of the entire planned route, as well as a large part of its connections to the adjacent urban network.
